Water level in Tamil Nadu increases due to excess southwest monsoon rains

As Tamil Nadu received excess rainfall this southwest monsoon, water levels in major reservoirs across the State have increased substantially.
 
Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai, in its rainfall statistics from June 1 to September 10, said that Tamil Nadu received 45% excess while its neighbouring Puducherry got 31% more downpour during this monsoon.
 
A senior official from Regional Meteorological Centre here in Chennai on Sunday said of the 32 districts in the State, more than 20 districts received excess rainfall during this year's southwest monsoon with more downpour is expected over the State until October.
 
PWD water resources department statistics also said that water level in Mettur reservoir, the lifeline of Delta farmers in the State has crossed 70 feet mark since the inflow was more than 6,000 cusecs as on Sunday morning.
 
Likewise, the water level in other major reservoir such as Mullaperiyar also crossed 100 feet mark due to good rain in neighbouring Kerala state.
 
Similarly, the water level in other dams such as Bhavanisagar, Amaravathy and Manimuthar also increased by several feet.
 
Chennai Metro Water supply sources also said that water level in Poondi, Redhills and Chembarambakkam, which caters drinking water supply to the state capital and its suburbs, also rose adequately.
