Reformed ultra rules out Naxal role in Gauri's killing

Last Updated 09 September 2017, 20:21 IST

Ex-Naxal leader Devendrappa has ruled out the possibility of the involvement of Naxalites in the killing of Gauri Lankesh.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, he said if she was killed by Naxalites, they would have made it public and defended it. Generally, they talk to the person if they have any disagreement and try to convince them. They would resort to killing as a last step. But in this case, it is not so, Devendrappa said.

“It is unfortunate that some news channels are misleading Special Investigation Team (SIT) by highlighting that naxalites may have killed Gauri. Above all, if they had done it, they would have placed a banner or flag at the murder spot,” Devendrappa said.

Going by his experience, communal forces might be behind the killing of Gauri, he said. But he is hopeful that the SIT would bring Gauri’s assassins to book.
