JOIN US Seasoned swimmer Meenakshi VKR hogged the limelight at the Jain University’s Annual Sports awards here on Saturday.
Meenakshi, who bagged seven gold medals in the All-India Inter University championship in Panjab University in Chandigarh in October last year, received a cash prize of Rs 70,000.
Meenakshi had triumphed in 200 metres backstroke, 400 metres individual medley, 200 metres individual medley, 200 metres freestyle, 4x100 metres medley relay, 4x100 metres freestyle relay, 4x200 freestyle relay. She also bagged two silver and bronze medals at the meet.
The women’s badminton team, who emerged champions in the South Zone meet held at Madurai Kamaraja University and All-India tournament at MD University in Rohtak, were awarded Rs 60,000. The men’s team, who won the title in the South Zone tournament at the Madurai Kamaraja University, received Rs 12,000,
Swimmer Shruthi Mahalinga, who won five gold medals, bagged Rs 50,000.
