Police rescue kidnapped 11-yr-old in 15 hours

In a swift action, the Malleswaram police rescued an 11-year-old boy 15 hours after he was kidnapped for ransom by a gang of six, led by an owner of a juice shop.

The police have arrested the kingpin Manjunath and five of his accomplices - Manoj (28) from Mangaluru, Vittal (24) from Bidar, Shivamurthy (25) from Tumakuru, Aakash YM (21) and Venkatesh (50) from Kunigal.

The prime suspect, Manjunath B, is a native of Kunigal and owns Ganesh juice centre near Malleswaram playground where the victim would frequent to play football with his friends, the police said.

According to the police, the gang had kidnapped the boy from Malleswaram grounds and demanded from his father, a textile businessman, a ransom of Rs 1 crore for his release.

DCP(North), Chetan Singh Rathore, said, “Manjunath, who had earlier set up a call centre, had lost Rs 40 lakh in it. He plotted to kidnap the boy to repay his loan.”

“He planned this with his associates with whom he promised to share the ransom,” he added.
