A 22-year-old man has been arrested for “offensive” social media posts on the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh.

Mallanagowda Basanagowda, a native of Surpur, Yadagir district, currently living in Bengaluru, was arrested late on Wednesday night from West Bengaluru’s Nagarabhavi Circle. He is accused of uploading hateful posts on his Facebook account, Malli Arjun. One of the posts reads: “#Gauri_LaknkeshMatash” (Gauri Lankesh finished).

The police investigation found that Mallanagowda had multiple Facebook accounts and posted regularly. Police said they had seized a mobile phone and a few SIM cards from him. A court has remanded him in seven days’ police custody.

Basanagowda studied diploma in civil engineering and moved to Bengaluru two months ago. He was living with a friend at Chandra Layout in Vijayanagar.
