Work on Basavanna museum to start soon

Last Updated 01 September 2017, 21:19 IST

An international museum dedicated to 12th century social reformer Basavanna will be established at Kudalasangama in Bagalkot at a cost of Rs 84 crore.

The decision was taken at the Kudalasangama Development Board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Friday.

A committee of experts will be formed to advise the government on the establishment of the museum. Siddaramaiah directed officials to begin work soon.

The museum will be modelled after the Akshardham temple and comprise a research centre, Hampi-like structures and Basavanna’s messages.

The museum will be a tourist attraction.

The decision to set up the museum comes at a time when the demand for a separate religion status to Lingayats, a school of thought Basavanna founded, is growing louder.

Kudalasangama, where Basavanna was laid to rest, is being developed at a cost of Rs 140 crore.
