Last Updated 31 August 2017, 19:53 IST

A 21-year-old techie, who was going home for her engagement, jumped off the Hazrat-Nizamuddin Express because three fellow passengers were harassing her.

She was admitted to hospital in a critical condition. The incident had taken place at the Singarayakonda station in Prakasam district.

Kurban from Bihar and Harikesh Yadav and Sudhakar from Uttar Pradesh were arrested soon after the train arrived at the Vijayawada station. The railway police said the victim, along with two other women, boarded the train in Chennai for Vijayawada.

The women did not have confirmed tickets, so they got into the S1 coach hoping to request the ticket-checking officials for arrangements. The compartment was full and the women were standing. The three accused started teasing the women and one even pulled the chunni of the victim, while another began recording the harassment on his phone.

Even though the hapless women sought help from other passengers in the coach, no one came forward. Just as the train reached the Singarayakonda station in Prakasam district, one of the women jumped off the running train.

One of the other women pulled the chain and rushed their injured friend to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Ongole. The girl sustained an injury on her forehead. The doctors have said she is out of danger.

Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police M Satti Babu said that they have registered a case under IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 290 read with section 30 (creating public nuisance) against the culprits.
