Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha on Wednesday said that the Central Government is committed to steering the country towards progress in all the fields in another five years.

Addressing a gathering during the seven-point programme organised by Krishi Vignan Kendra at Attur here, to double the income of farmers as part of 'Sankalp Se Siddhi Navbharat Nirman,' Simha said the motive behind the initiative is to make country self-dependent in all the fields.

It is indeed significant that the farmers should be a part of the initiative, as the Centre has devised many programmes towards the welfare of the agrarian community.

The poor should be able to avail of the benefits extended by the government to help them eke out a living. The current dispensation at the Centre is focused on creating basic infrastructural facilities with housing, electricity and toilet facilities.

Delineating on agriculture forming the backbone of the nation, Simha said the seven-point programme aims to augment the income of farmers by 2022, with the intervention of technology in the field.

It includes irrigation facilities, using improvised seeds, incorporating organic farming methods, maintenance of fertility of soil, increasing warehouse facility, value addition of agriculture products by food processing, checking shortcomings in market with national agriculture market, reducing losses and improving loan advancement system and strengthening of supplementary activities like cattle rearing, poultry farming, apiculture, fisheries and forestry.

Head of Krishi Vignan Kendra Saju George, director of Horticulture Dr Venkat Kumar, general manager, NABARD, M C Nanaiah, advisory committee member Arun Appanna, scientist Veerendra Kumar and K Devaiah were present.
