Empire hotel staffer attacked by colleagues

A 32-year old staffer of Hotel Empire in Jayanagar was beaten up by his senior who accused him of smoking inside the hotel on Monday.

The victim, identified as Paukhanmung, is a native of Manipur and has been admitted to Hosmat Hospital for treatment. The victim’s friends, who came to know about the incident, termed it a racist attack, but the police clarified that it was quarrel among the staff with some of them objecting to the victim smoking after being drunk.

According to police, on Sunday night, Paukhanmung was found smoking in a room on the terrace shared by the hotel staff. A senior staffer fined him and reprimanded him for smoking as the others objected to it.

Later on Monday, Paukhanmung who came drunk, started smoking again on the terrace, resulting in a quarrel.

His colleagues Paukhanmung before sending him off. On Tuesday, Paukhanmung narrated the incident to his friends and the Manipuri students’ association. They took him to a hospital and filed a police complaint.

“We have taken up the complaint from the victim and have arrested three persons, two from Odisha and one from Kerala. The assault was not racist in nature,” DCP (South) Sharanappa told DH. The Jayanagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
