Security was beefed up in the two districts of Rajasthan after a special CBI court on Monday sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Ahead of the sentencing, more than 1,500 police officials were deployed in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts, bordering Punjab and Haryana, to keep a tight vigil on the activities inciting violence.

Sriganganagar Collector Gyana Ram told DH, " Additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order has issued an alert in both districts. Police are recording phones numbers of people and details of all vehicles entering Rajasthan. The administration is in contact with police to maintain peace".

In view of the tension prevailing after the Dera chief's conviction the mobile internet services have been blocked for 48 hours in the two districts.

Additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order N R K Reddy said, "To avoid any sort of violence several companies of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been deployed in Bikaner, Hanumangarh, and Sriganganagar".  According to the sources, Dera supporters have been asked not to carry out any procession or stage dharnas.

On Friday following the conviction of Ram Rahim violence broke out in both these districts. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.P.C. were also imposed in both the districts.

Gurusar Modiya village in Surtagarh tehsil, which falls in Sriganganagar is the birthplace of Ram Rahim Singh. There are 25 'Deras' in Sriganganagar and Hunumangarh districts, where a large number of Dera followers reside.
