Heavy downpour has led to water logging and overflowing drains, making the city prone to diseases. Gastroenteritis, typhoid, cholera, fever are common during rains. Experts advise people to take precautionary measures to avoid bacterial infections and communicable diseases that are likely during water logging.

“Although mosquito larva gets washed away, there are chances that pure water may get mixed with contaminated water, especially if pipes have leaked. People should drink boiled and cooled water,” said Dr Lokesh M N, Chief Health Officer, BBMP.

He added that hot and properly preserved food should be consumed.

Dr Prakash Kumar, Deputy Director of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), said diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, vomiting are common during this time
He said, “People tend to buy canned water. They should ensure that the bottles are properly sealed with a seal or label on them. There are cases where borewell water is used instead of drinking water in these cans.”
