The son of popular Kannada actor Jaggesh was stabbed in the thigh by a motorist in what the police described as a road rage incident in northern Bengaluru on Monday morning.

Gururaj was driving his son to school in a Škoda when the driver of a Maruti Swift overtook him, brushing against his automobile at Mattadahalli near RT Nagar around 8.30 am.

Gururaj accelerated and bumped into the motorist at CQAL Circle. Both of them got off their cars and got into a heated argument. Suddenly, the other person pulled a knife out of his car and tried to stab Gururaj in the abdomen. The actor’s son, who is a sportsperson, jumped to dodge the attack but ended up getting stabbed in the left thigh. The suspect then drove off.

Gururaj’s left thigh required nine stitches at a private hospital. He was discharged later. Gururaj said: “He drove recklessly and hit my car. I got off and objected to his rash driving. He tried to stab me. I jumped to avoid the stab in my abdomen, but he wounded me in the left thigh. My son was in the car. There were many people, but nobody came to my rescue. It wasn’t the attack but people’s silence that hurt me.”

The jurisdictional RT police have the vehicle’s registration number and are hunting for the driver who has been identified as Shivashankar, a small-time realtor. The car is, however, owned by Sulochana Krishnegowda, a resident of Hebbal. The suspect has been booked for attempted murder.

Police said they verified Shivashankar’s background and found that he had no criminal record.

“We are yet to make the arrest and retrieve the weapon used in the stabbing,” a senior police officer told DH.
The suspect is said to have gone into hiding after learning that his victim is Jaggesh’s son.
