Awareness march on tree translocation

Last Updated 12 August 2017, 20:37 IST

More than 60 citizens marched from ITPL grounds to Hope Farm in Whitefield on Saturday to create awareness about the alternatives to cutting down trees.

Inspired by the translocation of trees at Sarjapur, Vandana Kaul, a resident of Kadugodi led the march to create awareness among citizens and government officials about translocation of trees. Kaul happened to see more than 50 trees in Whitefield marked for felling to make way for Metro’s Phase 2.

“The government should think of the coming generation. The city is thriving because of the green cover. We are trying to get help from a few companies to translocate trees ourselves,” said Kaul.

During the March, tree activist Vijay Nishanth made a presentation on how Bengaluru had the most tree varieties in the world.
