Saplings replace trees killed for clear view of hoardings

Jamun, honge, badami and Indian Tulip saplings were planted on Monday to replace the 14 trees that were killed to ensure a clear view of advertisement hoardings on the outer ring road (ORR).

Activists and officials of the BBMP forest cell came together to replace the trees. “Some of the trees that were killed were nearly 30 years old. Now, we need to nurture these saplings for another five years,” said tree committee member Vijay Nishath.

While BBMP officials could not be reached for comment on maintenance of the trees, Nishath said two activists who stay in the locality have been roped in to coordinate with officials on ensuring safety of saplings. Nishath said 13 other trees that were trimmed unscientifically by miscreants were now thriving, following the onset of the monsoon. “The BBMP forest cell will take care of saplings. We want to ensure that the plants will restore the green cover,” he added.
