Tribal development officer's transfer demanded

State secretary of Karnataka Adivasi Rakshana Parishat Mutthappa on Thursday demanded the transfer of district tribal development officer.

Addressing reporters, Mutthappa blamed the officer for failing to implement the programmes formulated for the benefit of tribals. As a result, an estimated Rs 10 crore sanctioned for creating basic infrastructural facilities at the hamlets has lapsed, he charged.

As is the procedure, the officials should stay at hamlets at least once, but there is no sign of visit of any officers from the past four years, he complained.

The hostels meant for tribals are in a pathetic condition and the wardens are tasked with supervision of two hostels at a time. The water supply at a hostel in Hosapura is not up to the mark, he expressed dissatisfaction, he claimed.

District president of Parishat P Rajesh said the City Municipal Council has set aside two acres of land to develop sites for the tribals. But it remains to see the light of the day. Several memoranda submitted to CMC commissioner has gone in vain. Though the information was sought under RTI six months ago, there is no reply. The tribals have been deprived of every dedicated facility, including LPG connection, he charged.
