Counselling for medical, dental put off to tomorrow

Last Updated 27 July 2017, 20:02 IST

To comply with the High Court order to allow Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) to apply for institution seats, the Medical Education department has postponed counselling for medical and dental seats to Saturday.

The final allotment for the first round was to be announced on Wednesday.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has revised the schedule and students can now enter options till 7 pm on July 28.

Document verification for OCI candidates will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on July 28. Only OCI and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates are allowed to take part in the verification. Students can submit the required documents in person or by email to  keauthority-ka@nic.in. The result of the first round of allotment will be published after 10 am on July 29.

Extended round rescheduled

As a result of the postponement of the first round of allotment for medical and dental seats, the second extended round of CET has been postponed. This has been done to ensure that seats which have been blocked in engineering and other courses by medical and dental candidates will be available for allotment in the extended round. Option entry has been extended up to 5 pm on July 29.

Allotment list will be published after 4 pm on July 30 and the last date to report to colleges is August 1.

ComedK to decide today

Following a demand from students for a second extended round, the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (ComedK) held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue.

Students said that since the first round of counselling for medical and dental seats has not been completed, several seats in engineering colleges have been blocked. Arguing that many of these seats would free up when medical and dental students get their allotments, they asked for a second extended round to be held.

On Thursday, a meeting was held with the chairman of the overseeing committee.

“Several important points were raised during the discussion. Tomorrow is the last day to complete processes for the second round. After that, we will know how many have taken the seats allotted to them. Based on that, we will make a decision,” said S Kumar, executive secretary of ComedK. A notification regarding this decision will be put out on the website by Friday, he said.
