'Respect Constitution to maintain peace'

The objective of the Police Complaint Authority is to build cordial relationships between the public and the police, Police Complaint Authority State Chairman A S Pacchapure said.

During an orientation programme in the court premises here on Tuesday, he said that, “We can attain peace when due respect is given to the law and the Constitution. The police department has a huge responsibility in maintaining peace, law and order.”

There is a need to change the mentality among law breakers, he said and added that the police department should be strengthened by posting honest officers in particular places.

Police Complaint Authority member M R Kamble said that the authority will ensure that criminals are punished.

Principal District and Sessions Judge R K G M M Mahaswami said that one has to be aware of the law. Court cases could be solved amicably through talks, he said.

Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad said that 12 cases in the district police complaint authority are pending for cleaance.

“Most of the cases are related to land disputes. The cases will be solved by holding meetings in district police cells,” he said.

First Additional District and Sessions Judge D Pavanesh, Senior Civil Judge Selvakumar, JMFC Judge Shivananda Hanchi, lawyer Daya Bangera and Bar Association president C T Joseph were present.
