Deadlock between Wipro factory workers, management continues

Last Updated 24 July 2017, 17:25 IST

A meeting between the management of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting and it’s employees, who have been staging a protest, opposing the company’s closure, chaired by Assistant Labour Commissioner A C Thamanna, on Monday, failed to yield any result.

As the employees and the management of the company did not come to a compromise, the meeting has been postponed to July 31. While AITUC district unit president Raju represented the employees, managers Balagopalkrishna Urs and Dayanand represented the company.

Following the announcement of the management of lock out of the company on July 10, the employees launched an indefinite protest. The unit has 84 permanent workers and 66 contract workers.

While the managers defended the management’s move to lockout the company, Raju said, the administration did not inform the employees about the closure of the company in advance.

As per rules, the management should intimate about the lockout 60 days in advance, he said.
