Crores spent, but Kempambudhi lake still dirty: MLA

Many people have made money on the pretext of improving the historic Kempambudhi lake near Basavanagudi, Chickpet MLA R V Devaraj has said.

Speaking at ‘Janaspandana – Citizens for Change’, a civic grievance redress programme organised by DH and Prajavani on Saturday, he said: “Crores of rupees were drawn in the name of rejuvenating the lake though there was hardly any improvement. The lake is in a pathetic condition because untreated sewage is being let into it. This time, we have come up with an action plan of Rs 9 crore. In two months, the lake will come to life. Once it is fully revived, we will get it inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”

The Congress MLA said his constituency had the most number of slums. Keeping this fact in mind, the government has released adequate grants for providing homes to slum dwellers. He said 1,000 sites had been identified where pucca houses will be built at a cost of Rs 5 lakh each. He further said that members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes would be given 40 cars under the self-employment scheme. Besides, underground drains in Mavalli are being replaced. He claimed that he had carried out a record number of works and got the maximum grants for his constituency.
