Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday inaugurated the Magadi Road underpass near Siddaiah Puranik Road junction.
The Rs 24.76-crore underpass built under the chief minister's Nagarothana scheme will ease traffic on Kamakshipalya-Majestic and Basaveshwaranagar-Vijayanagar directions. The movement of vehicles on Siddaiah Puranik Road will be seamless as the four-lane underpass segregates those travelling on other directions.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave a go-ahead for the project on October 12, 2013, with and set a 15-month deadline. However, work on the 315-metre long underpass did not start for more than an year. The work that began in March 2015 progressed at a snail's pace, causing inconvenience to the public.
BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said breaking through the rocky terrain and shifting of the drainage and water pipelines consumed time.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister reiterated that Indira Canteens to provide subsidised food to urban poor, would come up in 125 wards on August 15 and the rest would be started in October.
