JOIN USIn the wake of increasing traffic woes, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), in association with city police, has decided to streamline traffic flow in the city.
To begin with, the hurdles in smooth way of traffic from PVS Junction to State Bank of India Junction will be cleared from July 24.
Announcing this at a meeting convened at Mangala auditorium of the city corporation on Friday here, Mayor Kavita Sanil said that the measures to redress traffic woes will be taken up in phases. If the traffic woes on the stretch is cleared, it will address most of the issues to an extent, she added.

Corporator Shashidhar He-gde, whip in MCC council, asked the police to submit a feasibility report after studying the pros and cons within a week.
Chief Whip of the government in Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza told the authorities to take meausures towards better traffic management in wake of the recent decision of the government to change the timings of colleges.
Earlier, corporator Radhakrishna advised the authorities to take up measures to ease traffic woes in phases. It will be better to concentrate on particular junctions severally, instead of thinking of all in one go.
Corporator Dayanand Shetty alleged that the traffic woes in the recent days are aggravated due to laxity on the part of builders. Though new buildings are coming up irrespective of residential and commercial buildings, adequate parking facilities are not created, thus turning the footpaths into a parking lot, he charged.
Corporator Asha D’Silva wanted MCC to concentrate on fixing potholes on prominent roads in the city, that turn into lido during every monsoon.
It is evident with a number of potholes at Padil, Kankanady road especially in front of Corporation Bank branch and also between Karavali circle to Bendorwell Junction, he said.
Corporator Raziya highlighted the traffic jam at peak hours at Mahaveer Circle popularly known as Pumpwell Circle where vehicles are stranded for hours.
While the loading and unloading of goods close to old port road is adding to traffic woes, putting school going children into a fix. Though Bunder (port) police station is located nearby, there is no solution in sight, she said.
Corporator Roopa D Bangera, a former Opposition leader in council, wanted to know whether there is a provision to install speed breakers on airport road. The delay in laying speed breakers on a steep stretch of road between Circuit House and Kadri Kambala road lurks danger, she charged.
