Monsoon in full force, dam levels on the rise

River Krishna, tributaries continue to swell

Rain lashed several parts of the state in full force on Wednesday. Heavy showers were reported in Belagavi and Khanapur taluks in Belagavi district for the second consecutive day.

In view of the rains in the southern parts of Maharashtra, barrages in the region are overflowing. Following heavy showers in the catchment areas of River Krishna, there was slight increase in the water level of the river and its tributaries Doodhganga and Vedganga.

Dharwad-Hubballi continued to receive heavy rain. The showers, which had subsided a bit in the night, resumed in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Moderate rain continued to lash several parts of the twin districts of Chitradurga and Davangere for the second consecutive day.

Bagalkot also received rain. Heavy downpour continued in Belagavi city and taluks in the district. Rain claimed the life of a man after a house collapsed at Salahalli village in Ramdurg taluk. The victim has been identified as Mallikarjun Maski (30). In view of the release of water from Rajapur barrage in Maharashtra, the water level continues to rise in River Krishna.

Downpour continued non-stop in Sirsi, resulting in the overflowing of River Varada. A whopping 93.5 mm rain was recorded on a single day. The river is overflowing in Sagar and Sorab taluks.

Due to heavy rain, the Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway was blocked for four hours at Shiradi Ghat in Sakleshpur taluk, Hassan district, following a landslide.

Owing to good rain, inflow to the Hemavathi dam in Hassan taluk has increased and the dam received four feet of water in a single day. The dam, which has a maximum capacity to store 2,922 ft water, filled up to 2,844.45 ft and the inflow was 5,081 cusecs.

Similarly, Mysuru district, including the city, received good rain throughout the day. It drizzled in parts of Mandya district.
There has been slight increase in the water level in KRS and Kabini reservoirs as the inflow has increased with good rains in Kodagu district and Kerala respectively, their catchment areas.

Copious rain in the last two days has thrown normal life out of gear at Bhagamandala in Madikeri.

Rain continued to lash Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind continued to lash several parts of Shivamogga district. In a single day, water level in Linganamakki dam rose by two feet. Heavy rain lashed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
