Last Updated 19 July 2017, 19:33 IST
Workers were racing against time to finish renovating the Koramangala Indoor Stadium, one of FIBA Women’s Asia Cup venues, with the tournament just around the corner.

Despite the early optimism of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), the reconstructon work at the stadium was far from over on Wednesday with just three days for the tournament.

Construction workers were still doing a wide range of jobs, including installing of maple flooring in the court, rebuilding the rest rooms, painting the walls and the cleaning the premises.

An overseer, who is in-charge of the refurbishment, said that the labourers are working round the clock to get the stadium ready before the deadline. Meanwhile, Chander Mukhi Sharma, the BFI secretary-general sounded optimistic when asked if the renovation work at the venue will finish on time.

“The work will be done as it is being undertaken by the State government. They will handover the Stadium to us by July 21 midnight. Today morning we had a meeting with the concerned authorities. They said by midnight of July 21 the work will be finished. They will work 24 hours. There is no issue,” he said.

CM to inaugurate

On Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the refurbished Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

The championships will begin from July 23.
