Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the state will create 1.8 crore job opportunities by 2020. He said the government aims to produce skilled youths. He was addressing a gathering during the ‘Build Equal Opportunities for All’ programme, an employment fair and exhibition organised by the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Livelihood to mark World Youth Skills Day at Kalamandira here on Saturday.

Siddaramaiah said, “The Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, which was established in 2016-17, empowers youths by imparting training. The department has imparted training to 1.6 lakh youths last year and this year it has set a target to train 5 lakh youths.” The chief minister said that there are limited jobs in the government sector and thus it has become difficult for the youth.

“Without specific training and skills, it is difficult for youth to get jobs. Thus, the government organises skill development programmes as per the needs of industries,” Siddaramaiah said.

Overwhelming response
Siddaramaiah said that the department has set a target to train 25,000 youths in 2017-18 from Mysuru, but as many as 34,700 youths have registered. “In all, 15,000 girls and 19,000 boys have registered for the training programme. As many as 10,613 youths belong to scheduled castes while 4,612 youths are from scheduled tribes. Similarly, 17,916 youths belonging to backward communities, 474 disabled persons and 1,148 minorities have been enrolled for the training. The officials should organise a mega job fair in Mysuru for the benefit of job aspirants from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts,” he said. He distributed tool kits to ITI students belonging to SC/ST communities.

“Despite being educated, most of the rural youths fail to find jobs due to lack of skills. We impart skills and also provide placement opportunities after the training,’’ KSDC Chairman Muralidhar Halappa said.

ITI expo
ITI students from eight districts displayed a variety of models during the exhibition organised at Kalamandira. PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa, MLAs Vasu, M K Somashekar and H P Manjunath and Mayor M J Ravikumar were present.

He alleged irregularities in the previous Dasara celebrations and Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), and demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation.
