Vani, Amandeep look to restore order

Top guns Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor return to the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour, looking to restore order after rookie Tvesa Malik made the most of their absence and swept to glory in her maiden outing as a professional last week.

Both Amandeep -- second in the Order of Merit list -- and Vani didn’t compete in the seventh leg at the Eagleton Golf Resort owing to Ladies European Tour commitments and the 20-year-old Tvesa cashed in on the weakened field, warding off a strong challenge from an in-form Gaurika Bishnoi to collect the winner’s cheque.

Things though will get a lot tighter with newly married Neha Tripathi also set to take the field in the eighth leg at Clover Greens in Hosur.

Amandeep and Vani -- three-time Order of Merit champion -- were the two most consistent players last season, posting 11 wins between them. The duo turned most events into a two-horse race, leaving most of the others battling for the lesser spoils.

While Vani has switched her focus to Europe this season, Amandeep has been shuffling between LET and India. Despite that, Vani and Amandeep have won twice each and they start as joint favourites this week.

Gaurika, the most consistent player this season, will be looking to make amends for her failure last week. She leads the money list and a win will help her extend the lead even further.

An eye will be on Smriti Mehra, who has failed to cross the line first in seven starts this season. It’s a rare dip in form for the veteran as she will be determined to snap that barren run. So will Sharmila Nicollet, who has been struggling to rediscover her ‘A’ game following battles with injuries.
