Parth and Arjun Choudhary, brothers from Euphoria Apartments near the Bellandur Lake, have become famous globally for their endeavor in saving a 30-foot-tall fig tree in their apartment complex from being axed three months ago.

The boys, aged 6 and 9, on Sunday were conferred with Certificate of Appreciation from GHK Foundation, London. They have been termed  Green Warriors in the certificate signed by Alyia Phelps-Gardiner Krumbiegel, the great granddaughter of horticulturist Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel, after whom the Foundation has been named. Gustav was a German botanist and the chief architect of
Lalbagh Botanical Gardens.

Vijay Nishanth, noted environmentalist, gave the certificates to the two boys. The apartment dwellers had taken Nishanth’s help to build a root barrier around the tree in June. The tree needed treatment as its roots were affecting the sewage line. The residents of the apartment had decided to uproot the tree. But it was saved due to the timely intervention of Arjun and Parth.

Nishanth said that the London-based Foundation is just three months old and it is the first time, someone from Bengaluru was honoured. The Foundation lauds people for their green initiatives and recognises them globally.
