A fine all-round effort from Vyshak Vijaykumar gave Bangalore Zone a slight edge over Mofussil XI in the final of the KSCA (under-23) SA Srinivasan memorial tournament here on Sunday.

On the opening day here at the RSI ground, electing to bat, Bangalore made a strong start with their openers Jayesh Babu (71, 101b, 11x4, 2x6) and Abhinav Manohar (51, 44b, 3x4, 5x6) putting on 93 runs. However, both the batsmen were dismissed in the span of ten balls as Bangalore were reduced to 103/2 in 18.4 overs. The Sharath BR-led side then lost its way by losing regular wickets before Vyshak came to its rescue. The right-hander slammed a handy 59 of 82 balls (7x4, 2x6) as Bangalore reached a respectable 282 all out in 63.2 overs.

Karan MC, who gave Mofussil the first breakthrough, was the pick of their bowlers (3/48 in 12 overs) along with Anand, who bagged three for 66 runs.

Bangalore Zone bowlers, led by Rajat Hegde (2/51) and Vyshak (2/51), denied Mofussil a smooth progress. While skipper Nikin Jose, who slammed 43 of 60 balls, failed to bat through the day, MS Bhandage (39) squandered a decent start.  At stumps, Mofussil were 155/4, trailing their opponents by 127 runs.

Brief scores: Final: Bangalore Zone: 282 all out 63.2 overs (Jayesh Babu 71, Abhinav Manohar 51, Sharath Belur Ravi 28, Nitesh 26, Vyshak Vijaykumar 59; Anand 3-66, Prateek Patil 2-86, Karan 3-48) vs Mofussil XI 155/4 in 37.4 overs (Mohammed Azeem M 26, Nikin Jose 43, MS Bhandage 39, Darshan Patil 41 not out; Vyshak V 2-31, Rajat Hegde 2-51).
