Hombanna, which bagged four awards at the Five Continents International Film Festival in Venezuela and one more at the Miami Independent International Film Festival, revolves around encroachment of forests and eviction of forest-dwellers.

Written, scripted and directed by Rakshit Thirthahalli, the film touches upon the issue affecting the region and coastal districts. Filmed in Malnad forest region, it revolves around a farmer who desperately tries to save his nursery/farm from a forest department hell-bent on evicting him and reclaiming the patch of land.

It speaks of how a student of Journalism chances upon the fateful story of Hombanna of Malnad, and how he and his people face the fury of various agencies trying to evict them citing land encroachment and how Moorthanna remains a mute witness to atrocities heaped on them.

Director Rakshit, in a hard-hitting manner, turns the focus on atrocities faced by farmers with even the establishment and politicians ranged against them. The film also faithfully captures awe-inspiring landscapes, local customs, culture, festivities, language and lifestyles of farmers of Western Ghats in all its resplendant glory.
