The Basaveshwaranagar police on Thursday arrested four people, including a woman, who robbed a 49-year-old home-alone woman in Shakthiganapathinagar on Wednesday.

The arrested have been identified as Bharath (20), Vinay Kumar (23), Ravi Kiran (22) and Hemavathy, a woman in her early twenties. The police also discovered that these four habitual offenders were associates of an inmate of Parappana Agrahara Central prison identified as Praveen alias Hitachi who guided them in executing the crimes in the city. The gang robbed gullible victims and a part of the booty would also reach Praveen’s associates outside the prison, the police added.

The gang robbed home-alone woman Kavitha in Shakthiganapathinagar on Wednesday. Hemavathy had knocked on Kavitha’s doors on the pretext of seeking the maid’s job and later entered the house saying she was hungry. While the unsuspecting victim went to the kitchen, Hemavathy, after ensuring that the victim was alone, informed her associates and allowed them inside. The suspects then overpowered Kavitha, gagged her and tied her legs.

They robbed her of the gold chain and a pair of bangles before fleeing. Based on a complaint, the police tracked down the suspects based on CCTV footage and call detail record from nearby towers. The police also said the suspects confessed that they were involved in three other robberies in Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Bagalagunte and Hennur. The police are yet to recover the stolen items.
