Men on bike stab Hindu activist in B C Road

Bike-borne miscreants stabbed a 28-year-old youth in B C Road around 9.30 pm on Tuesday and fled the spot.

The injured has been identified as Sharath, a resident of Sajeepa Muda.

Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that the injured has been admitted to a private hospital. Sharath is said to be a Hindu activist.

It may be recalled that ban orders under Section 144 of the CrPC are still in force in Bantwal taluk. Following the stabbing incident, security has been tightened in Bantwal taluk. Further investigations are on.

2 held for trying to rob bank

The CCB sleuths have taken two persons, including the husband of the Kotekar Vyavasaya Seva Sahakari Bank’s director to custody, in connection with an attempt to rob the bank at K C Road Branch.

According to police, two knife-wielding unidentified men had attempted to rob the bank on June 23 in broad daylight.

The suspects are Boat Rama alias Ramachandra Poojary (57) and his neighbour Mohan Kumar (47). Both are residents of Pilar. After threatening the staff and locking them inside the toilet, the duo had tried to flee with 20 kg of gold ornaments. However, their attempt was thwarted by one of the employees of the bank who threw a stone at the thieves. Fearing getting caught, the duo fled the spot, leaving the gold ornaments behind.

While Ramachandra was working as a security supervisor at Empire Mall, Mohan Kumar is a partner with Lakshmi Transport Company.

The duo confessed to the police that they tried to rob the bank to repay huge loan availed by them.

The Pulsar bike used to commit the crime too has been confiscated.

Chain snatching: 3 held

Karkala rural police have nabbed three accused and seized gold ornaments and a motorbike worth Rs 1.33 lakh.

According to police, the accused identified as Srinidhi alias Shinu and Nithin Poojary from Kateel and Puroshattham Poojary alias Ravi from Kandavara in Mangaluru are arrested. They were involved in chain snatching cases.

ATM theft: 2 arrested

The Mangaluru South Police arrested two persons in connection with the theft of an ATM card and withdrawing a sum of Rs 3,59,000 using the card.

According to the police, the arrested are Fathima (28) and her husband Selvam (31). Both hail from Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The police have recovered Rs 2,20,000 and a 20-gram gold chain purchased using the money withdrawn. The ATM card belongs to Joyce (70), a resident of Britto Lane in Falnir.

Police Inspector Belliappa and team under the guidance of City Police Commissioner investigated the case.
