If it was Vyshak Vijaykumar on day one, Deepesh Poonia stole the limelight with a brilliant bowling performance on the second and final day as Bangalore Zone scripted an innings and two runs victory over Combiend City XI in the KSCA (under-23) SA Srinivasan memorial tournament here at the RWF ground on Monday.
Resuming from 266/5, ahead of their opponents by 119 runs, Bangalore managed to add 107 runs to their total. Sharath BR (119), who was unbeaten on 106, fell early while Vineeth Manjunath contributed 35 as Bangalore were bundled out for 373. Sharan Gouda (4/102) and Vikash Kumar Sinha (3/55) were the pick of the bowlers for Combined City.
Trailing by 226, Combined City batsmen produced another disappointing batting effort and folded for 224 in 51.3 overs. Anurag Bajpai (58) and Shrijith KL (42) got starts but failed to last long and strike big knocks. Poonia rattled the Combined City batsmen with figures of six for 39 while Shreyas BM played his part, bagging three for 80.
Bangalore Zone picked up five points from the win and they sit atop the table with nine points from three matches.
