Congress MLA K S Sabarinathan today tied the knot with IAS officer Divya S Iyer at a temple in Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu this morning.

The low-key ceremony was attended by close relatives and friends of the bride and groom.

The marriage between Sabarinathan, an engineering graduate and Sub-Collector Divya, a medical doctor, has hit headlines since its announcement as a politician-bureaucrat wedding is considered a first in the state.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and MLAs K C Joseph and V D Satheesan also arrived at Kumarakovil, the famed Lord Muruga Temple, to extend their blessings to the young couple.

The 33-year-old MLA, who represents Aruvikkara constituency, had announced the marriage through his facebook page last month.

Son of late Congress leader and Assembly speaker G Karthikeyan, Sabarinathan, who was with Tata Sons in Mumbai for seven years, took the political plunge following the demise of his father in 2015.

He had won the Aruvikkara bypoll and became the youngest MLA in the state Assembly in 2015.

He later retained the seat in the May 2016 assembly polls with an impressive margin.

Thirty two-year-old Divya, who did her MBBS from Vellore Medical College, worked as Assistant Collector at Kottayam before moving to her home district here.
