'Innocent dalits victimised in the name of movement'

Last Updated 28 June 2017, 19:04 IST

Innocent dalits are being victimised during pro-dalit movements. Most of the times, those who suffer the consequences have nothing to do with movements, said thinker G Rajashekhar Udupi.

He was speaking after releasing the book ‘Dalita Abhivriddhi: Sahitya Samskriti’, authored by Dr Srinivas Giliyaru at Sahodaya Hall, Balmatta, on Monday.

Rajashekhar said that readers can witness Giliyaru’s search for truth while reading his thoughts on nationalism. “The author has analysed the Ram Janmabhumi issue on a political basis and has compared it with dalit movements, to show that the repercussions suffered by the members of the dalit and minority communities in such issues are similar. Some organisations have been targeting dalits and carrying out atrocities on innocent dalits, only for the establishment of their ideologies,” said the thinker.

He, meanwhile, lamented that the riots in the name of caste or commune, are being misused by politicians for their selfish motives. Also, many tragedies of dalits go unnoticed, he said.

Mangalore University SVP Kannada Study Centre professor Dr B Shivram Shetty presided over the programme. Boscos PU College principal Dr Dinesh Nayak Karaje introduced the book. Kolar district Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K was the guest. Chintana Bayalu Prakashana proprietor Reshma Bhat was present during the book release.
