Meira Kumar represents values that bind us as a nation, says Rahul

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was not present when Meira Kumar filed her nomination for Presidential polls but tweeted his praise for her from abroad.
 
"Against the ideology of divisiveness. She represents the values that bind us as a nation and people. Proud to have Meira Kumarji as our candidate," he tweeted.
 
Gandhi has left for Italy a fortnight ago to be part of his ailing grandmother amid crucial discussion among Opposition parties on presidential elections. On June 13 he tweeted, "will be travelling to meet my grandmother & family for a few days. Looking forward to spending some time with them!"
 
Though the younger Gandhi was absent, his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi led leaders from 16 other parties to accompany Kumar while filing nominations.
 
Besides Sonia, those who signed as proposers in the nomination papers include former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and H D Devegowda (JD-S), Sharad Pawar (NCP), Mayawati (BSP), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), Derek O'Brien (Trinamool Congres), Ram Gopal Yadav (SP), D Raja (CPI) and Kanimozhi (DMK).
 
Omar Abdullah (National Conference), Hemant Soren (JMM), Jai Prakash Yadav (RJD), Jose K Mani, (Kerala Congress-M), N K Premachandran (RSP), Hafiz Bashir Ahmed (AIUDF), PK Kunhalikutty (Muslim League) and Congress leaders Ghulam N Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge and Ahmed Patel. Congress Chief Ministers Siddaramaiah (Karnataka), Amarinder Singh (Punjab), Virbhadra Singh (Himachal Pradesh, Mukul Sangma (Meghalaya), Lal Thanhawla (Mizoram) and V Narayanasamy (Puducherry)
