Top seeds Aakarshi, Lakshya in semifinal

Chattisgarh’s Aakarshi Kashyap enjoyed a great outing at the 16th Union Bank All-India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Karnataka Badminton Association courts making it to the last-four of both the under-17 and the under-19 categories on Saturday.

In the under-19 girls singles, Aakarshi beat Uttar Pradesh’s Amolika Singh 21-17, 19-21, 21-11 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Aakarshi will take on fourth seed Ashmita Chaliha of Assam.

In the under-17 quarters, Aakarshi beat Aashi Rawat of New Delhi 21-17, 21-12. On Sunday, she will take on Samiya Imad Farooqui of Telangana for a place in the final.

Meanwhile in the boys’ section, top seed Lakshya Sen of Uttarakhand continued his fine form to notch up a 21-17, 21-16 win over Nikhilshyam Sriram of Karnataka in the under-19 singles.

He will take on another Karnataka shuttler Rahul Bhardhvaj in the semifinal on Sunday. Bhardhvaj beat Jaswanth D of Andhra Pradesh 21-13, 21-12 in his quarters tie.
