JOIN USSeveral parts of the state received good rain on Friday. There was widespread rain in Shivamogga with Hosanagar, Thirthahalli, Sagar and Bhadravathi receiving heavy showers for the whole day, though intermittently. Several roads in Shivamogga were waterlogged affecting movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Shikaripur and Sorab received moderate to heavy rain for a short period. Monsoon intensified in Uttara Kannada district with Karwar, Honnavar and Kumta receiving rain throughout the day. There were reports of moderate rain in Bhatkal, Honnavar, Yallapur, Sirsi and Siddapur. The district recorded 413.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at Friday 8.30 am. Honnavar recorded 78.6 mm of rain followed by Ankola (70.4 mm) while Karwar received 58.8. mm of rain. The inflow into Supa reservoir stood at 1,768 cusecs. The dam had water up to 530.15 metres against the full level of 564 metres.
Hubballi received intermittent rainfall in the day while there was drizzling in the evening. It rained for the whole day in Dharwad. Belagavi city and surrounding villages, parts of Khanapur, Chikkodi and Raibag taluks received mild showers. Intermittent rain lashed Dakishna Kannada after a day. In the last 24 hours, the district received an average of 16.7 mm rainfall.
Normal life has been affected in Yadgir, which has been receiving rain for the past three days. The district has received 106 mm of rain so far. With silt accumulating in SWD, rainwater gushed into low-lying areas.
Rain continued to pound Kodagu district. It rained heavily for an hour in the morning. The inflow into Harangi reservoir has increased to 1,112 cusecs. The dam had 2,813.95 ft of water against the maximum level of 2,859 ft.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kalaburagi district from Thursday night till the wee hours of Friday.
The downpour led to an increase in the inflow into the dams in the district. However, it affected normal life with rainwater flooding many low-lying areas. Rain lashed Sedam and Chincholi taluks also. A car was washed away in the rainwater at Ankalagi village of Afzalpur taluk. The district received an average rainfall of 31.6 mm. Kalaburagi taluk received the highest average rainfall of 54.36 mm. The inflow into the Bennethora dam at Herur in Chittapur taluk was 2,300 cusecs while the outflow was 830 cusecs.
With heavy rain in the Cauvery catchment area, the inflow into Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam has increased. On Friday, the inflow was 1,515 cusecs. The water level as on June 16 was 67.78 ft, against the maximum of 124.80 feet.
KRS executive engineer Basavarajegowda said that following heavy rain in Kodagu, the inflow into the dam had went up. While Mysuru city experienced sudden rains in the afternoon, Sakleshpur in Hassan district, received good rains.
