CM praised for 'good governance'

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday virtually received a pat on his back from Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal for providing “good administration”.

Addressing the extended KPCC general body meeting, Rahul said Siddaramaiah had been doing a good job as the chief minister. “The chief minister has concern for the poor and the downtrodden. It is a true Congress government in Karnataka,” he remarked.

Earlier, Venugopal said the government led by Siddaramaiah had fulfilled 95% of the promises made by the party before the 2013 Assembly elections. The Union government led by Narendra Modi has fulfilled only 25% of the total promises the BJP had made during 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he said quoting an analysis done by the Congress.

The Congress government has been doing a good job. “The party will win the next Assembly elections with a huge majority in Karnataka. And the 2018 Karnataka Assembly election results will bring a remarkable difference to the national politics,” Venugopal stated.

Many senior leaders who spoke at the meeting mentioned about “differences” within the party but said that they will work for the party overlooking all the differences.

“I have a lot to tell, but this is not the right forum. I will take a vow to work with all the leaders and bring the party back to the power...I think we should stop glorifying persons and promote only the party,” said Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, who had tried to become KPCC president.

In an apparent effort to appease the disgruntled Congress leaders, Rahul later said it is difficult to make everybody happy. “The Congress is a family. Every person feels she/he is heard in this family. The party listens to all. Everybody can’t be made happy. But we can embrace all,” he stated.
