Rahul to address KPCC general body meeting tomorrow

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will address an extended general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee during his visit to Bengaluru on Monday (June 12) as the party is gearing up for the next Assembly elections.

This will be his first visit to the state after giving an extension to Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara and appointment of K C Venugopal as national general secretary in charge of the state replacing Digvijaya Singh.

Rahul will also attend a function organised for the release of National Herald's commemorative publication "India at a Crossroads: 70 years of Independence" on the same day in the city.

All eyes will be on Rahul's address to party leaders as the organisation is going all out to retain power in the state in the Assembly elections likely to be held in March-April next year.

Rahul earlier addressed a group of senior leaders in Delhi, when he invited them for consultations as part of the party's exercise to decide new Pradesh Congress presidents.

‘Important signal’

“As the party's state leaders earlier requested him to frequently visit Karnataka and address the workers’ meetings at different places, his address will be an important signal for the preparation for elections as the district and taluk unit office-bears were also invited for Monday's meeting," said a senior leader in the party.

Rahul will also address the party's tribal workers’ rally to be held later this month in Karnataka.

On the day of his visit, pro-Kannada organisations have also called a state-wide bandh to press for several issues including an early resolution of the Mahadayi dispute and waiver of farm loans.
