IAS topper to donate her first salary to alma mater

Reading newspapers everyday helped a lot to keep in touch with current affairs for civil services topper K R Nandini. During her visit to Alva’s Educational Institutions here on Thursday, Nandini shared her study schedule.

She completed her pre-university education from Alva’s.

“Reading is my hobby since high school days. I read literary works of great writersin Kannada. Regular reading of two newspapers helped me keep in touch with current affairs,” Nandini said, while speaking to reporters.

She said after completion of her engineering studies, she cleared IRS examination by securing 849th rank. She was posed as an assistant engineer with Public Works Department in New Delhi. Her performance in the IRS examination motivated her to enter Indian Administrative Service.

“It is true that lot of hardwork goes into the preparation of UPSC examination. But, it does not require lot of money,” she said.

Nandini, who met Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, said that educational institutions should create an atmosphere which is conducive for students to set high goals. She thanked the Alva’s Education Institution where she studied under the free education scheme. She declared that she would donate her first salary as an IAS officer to the education fund of the institution, meant for meritorious students from underprivelged section of society.

Nandini’s mother K V Vimalamma said that she supported daughter in her studies. Dr M Mohan Alva said that Nandini has made her institution proud. K R Nandini’s father K V Ramesh was present.
