Now an outfit in Guj calls for people to vote out BJP, Cong

The political temperature in wake of forthcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat appears to be rising, with a political outfit calling itself Jana Sangh painting walls across the city of Ahmedabad, appealing voters to vote out ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition Congress.

In fact, most of the slogans directly appear to be taking on the saffron party’s agenda of Ram temple, cow protection etc. In its slogans, Jana Sangh states that people of different communities in the state have become slaves of BJP and Congress. “It is time for people to break the shackles of slavery,” one of the slogans in upmarket S G Highway reads.

Interestingly, Bharatiya Jana Sangh, also known as Jan Sangh, was set up by Shyamaprasad Mukherjee in 1951 and till 1977 was considered to be the political arm of RSS, believed to be the ideological arm of ruling BJP. In 1977, it merged with other parties to oppose the rule of Congress to form Janata Party. After the split in Janata Party, it was reformed as BJP in 1980.

However, the organisation that has put up slogans on the wall appear to be from Akhil Bharatiya Jana Sangh, formed by the former general secretary of Jan Sangh Balraj Madhok in 1979. Madhok was expelled from Jan Sangh in 1973. However, if the entity that has claimed to have put wall writings is ABJS could not be verified.

The representatives of the political outfit also could not be reached over the telephone number displayed in the wall paintings. It has called for making India a Hindu nation, construction of Ram Temple, plea to divide Kashmir into three – Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh, separate Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan from Pakistan. “Vote out BJP and Congress, bring in Jana Sangh,” says another wall writing.
