Molestation victims harassed by cop in UP

Two sisters had approached the police for lodging a molestation complaint, but little did they know that they would face the same humiliation at the station.

A police constable reportedly molested a girl inside the Karhal Gate police outpost in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, about 300 kilometres from here.

The sisters had been to a police station a few days ago to lodge a complaint against a person, who had reportedly tried to harass them, sources said.

The officer, identified as Ishwari Prasad, who was said to be in an inebriated state, reportedly touched one of the victims inappropriately.

The matter came to light on Saturday, when a video showing the officer touching one of the girls went viral on social networking sites.

The video shows Prasad lying on a cot and one of the girls standing near him. The other girl is seen sitting a few metres away. He is seen indulging in indecent acts several times. The victim is seen leaving the place in a huff.

Prasad, however, denied behaving inappropriately, though he admitted that he had touched the girl’s hand, sources said.

According to sources, the sisters complained to senior officers about Prasad’s harassment, following which he was suspended, and a probe was ordered. “Further action will be taken against the officer after the probe,” a senior police official of the district said.

Barely a few days ago, a station house officer of the Kisni police station in the district had been suspended after he was accused of sending obscene text messages to a woman.

The Uttar Pradesh government had recently taken action against half a dozen police personnel on charges of laxity and connivance with criminals.

Two police personnel had even been felicitated by a history sheeter in Mathura district.
