Post CET results, confused students approach KEA

A day after the announcement of results of the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2017, several students and parents gathered at the office of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to clarify queries.

A teacher in a government school came to the KEA office on Tuesday along with his son, a CBSE student from Doddaballapura, to understand why his son was not given a rank in the veterinary sciences.

“We gave them a printout of the CET result and they just wrote on it that veterinary rank was not given. They put it in a file along with other complaints without giving us any acknowledgement. We don’t know why the rank was not given or what they are going to do about it,” he said.

Several other CBSE students faced the same issue. They had been assigned ranks for engineering and other courses, but not veterinary sciences. An official from the KEA explained that for veterinary sciences, it is compulsory to have English as one subject in the qualifying exam, such as II PU or CBSE Class 12.

“If the students have not opted for English, they are not eligible. But if they have English in II PU or CBSE Class 12 and appeared for Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) subjects in CET and yet have not been awarded a rank, we will look into such queries and give a spot rank,” the official added.

A student from Hoskote had secured 11 marks out of 60 in Chemistry, though she had 19 correct answers, when her copy of the answer sheet was cross-checked with the final answer key. Authorities said that they would look at her original answer sheet and if the case was genuine, would make the necessary changes.

Students of ICSE, CBSE, IGCSE and other boards and students who completed PU in the past, will all be assigned spot ranks once they submit relevant marks cards to the KEA.

“Students need not panic if they do not have a rank. They can submit their qualifying exam marks anytime before the document verification ends. We have a system where we can assign spot ranks so that the student’s chances in counselling will not be affected,” the official said.
