Mayor G Padmavathi on Monday warned of stringent action against BBMP engineers and Salarpuria Satva Techpark if investigations prove that violations in the tech park’s construction caused cracks in a neighbouring building.

The mayor visited Utopia Apartments next to Salarpuria Satva Techpark in Kadu- beesanahalli in Bellandur ward. The apartments recently developed cracks threatening 119 families.

The mayor said Salarpuria Builders may have used dynamite to break hard rock while constructing the tech park, which weakened Utopia Apartments.

“I learnt that the builder had dug up to 40 feet to lay the foundation of the tech park, spread across four to five acres. Residents complained that dynamite was used for breaking the hard rock in the foundation, which weakened the apartments. If investigations prove the charges, then the engineers will face consequences,” said the mayor.

Padmavathi said civil engineers declared the building safe. However, 70 families residing in A2 and B2 Blocks of the residential complex have been shifted to safer place.

The compound wall of Salarpuria Satva Tech Park too collapsed in the rain. The mayor said work is on to restore it. The mayor also visited Ramanna Colony where one house collapsed and a few others developed cracks due to construction work by a builder. She said stringent action will be taken against the builder.
