Volunteers do MCC's job, clean up 9 roads in Mangaluru

Volunteers from Ramakrishna Mission cleaned nine locations in Mangaluru as part of a campaign recently.

Volunteers from Sri Subrahmanya Sabha undertook the cleanliness drive on Canara College Road, Jail Road and Veterinary Hospital Road. They cleaned the road in front of Canara College, along with the side and adjoining gutters.

They removed old posters and banners and later cleaned the gutters along the jail compound. They swept CG Kamath Road and the road leading to Karangalpady.

Team Mangalore Seniors carried out the cleanliness drive in Bejai and the surrounding areas. The volunteers cleaned the area around the KSRTC bus stand and Bejai Main Road. The area in front of the bus shelter opposite Bharath Mall in Bejai was uneven and was a nuisance to the public. The land was levelled. In the coming days, seats will be set up in the bus shelter for passengers.

Members of Kumar Gym Friends cleaned up the road under the Kottara flyover. The volunteers, along with local residents, also removed roadside stalls that had come up under the flyover. They took posters off the piers of the flyover.

Members of Dakshina Kannada Havyaka Sabha cleaned up Jogi Mutt Road and the areas surrounding Kadri Park Road. The volunteers removed plastic papers and bottles strewn on the roadside and the footpath.

Volunteers from Bhagini Samaja and students gave a good clean-up to Mangala Nagar. They distributed awareness handbills on segregation of waste among the residents of Mulihithlu, Jeppu.

Members of Nivedita Balaga carried out an awareness programme at Bolara. Former corporator Suresh Shetty led the team of volunteers visiting houses in Mission Compound, the road in front of Bolara School and the residents of Marigudi. They identified people littering the streets.

The employees of Sriram Transport Finance cleaned up Pandeshwara from the fire station to RTO Circle. They removed plastic papers and bottles. Members of Art of Living took up the cleanliness drive on the premises of Gandhi Nagar primary school.

Students of Srinivasa Engineering College have been organising the ‘Swachh Mangalore’ campaign for the last 10 months. The concluding programme was held at Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Ekagamyananda gave away certificates to the volunteers.
