The Kothanur police on Tuesday arrested six people for murdering a rowdy in Northeast Bengaluru on Saturday. One other suspect is yet to be arrested.

Ayub Khan (38), the victim, was a realtor and resident of Govindapura and was killed over a long-standing dispute. The arrested are prime suspect Syed Sharieff (33), Syed Mehboob Pasha (29), Sharukh Khan (24), Syed Mansoor Ali (30), all residents of Yelahanka, Mohammad Jaffar Hussain (34), a resident of Ganganagar Extension and Nawaz Sharief (19), from DJ Halli. One more suspect Waqar Ahmed (35), a resident of Yelahanka, is at large. According to the police, Khan had gone missing on Saturday. His body was found on Monday in his eucalyptus grove behind Surya cement concrete factory in Bellahalli off Hegdenagar main road, said the police.

The police collected call detail records and tracked six men who were picked up from near Halasuru lake on Tuesday.

Upon interrogation, the suspects said Khan had cheated many of them of lakhs of rupees and had even sold the same site to different customers. Khan also had a rowdy sheet opened against him at Kadugondanahalli police station after he threatened, extorted and intimidated several of his cheated customers.

All the suspects were earlier Khan’s associates, the police said. One of them, Syed Sharieff, formed an association to fight against Ayub. He put up a name board of the association with a flag near Bellahalli bus-stand to which Khan objected.

On Saturday, Sharieff, along with six others called Khan to a secluded spot on the pretext of reaching a comprise. When Khan reached the spot, he was hacked to death after which the assailants fled the spot. The police later arrested the six and seized a Honda City car along with a chopper and two machetes from them.
