Surfers practise at Sasihithlu beach before Indian Open

 With just a day left for the Indian Open of Surfing 2017, surfers from Tamil Nadu, Goa, Kerala, Russia, France, Germany, in addition to surfers from Karnataka, landed at Sasihithlu beach for practice on Wednesday.

The Tourism Department, along with the Mantra Surf Club and Kanara Surfing and Water Promotion Council, will organise a three-day Karnataka Surfing Festival, Indian Open of Surfing 2017 from May 26 to 28.

Surfing ambassadors Suniel Shetty, Jonty Rhodes and Sanju Samson will take part in the event.
“The Mantra Surf Club has been making preparations for the last few months. In the first edition of the Indian Open of Surfing, the members of our Club too had taken part. Top ranked Stand Up Paddler Tanvi Jagadish is the surfer to look out for at the event,” said Shamanth of Mantra Surf Club.

On Wednesday, stars like Nehal, Satyasri Krishna, Tanvi Jagadish, Sinchana Gowda, Anisha were seen practising on the shores of the beach.

Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yathish Baikampady, who is also closely associated in promoting surfing, said that around 30 surfers, along with local surfers have practised surfing at Sasihithlu beach. About 150 persons have registered for the competition online. The registration for local talent to take part in the event is open till May 26.

“Sasihithlu is now the emerging as a hotspot of coastal tourism thanks to the India Open of Surfing organised by Surfing Federation of India last year,” he said.
