CM promises land for educational institutions of backward classes

 Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday that the government is ready to allot land in Bengaluru if the backward communities come forward to set up educational institutions.

After inaugurating the Kuruhinashetty convention at the district stadium here, Siddaramaiah said that land will be identified for facilitating backward communities establish their educational institutions.

Each community would be allotted two to four acres of land as per their requirement and financial support will also be extended, he said. Siddaramaiah said that urban development authorities would be recommended to allot land if the backward communities wish to set up institutions at the district level.

He called upon people of 27 sub-castes under the weaving community to get united. “The castes have been identified based on their professions. For how many days is it possible to live with a backward community tag? If you do not get united and fight for a cause it is difficult to get opportunities,” he said.

Siddaramaiah said the reservation for SC/STs, minorities and backward communities will be increased from 50% to 70% after the caste census report is made public. However, it will not affect the people of general categories, he assured.

On the occasion, the chief minister announced a fund of Rs 2 crore for educational activities organised by the Kuruhinashetty community.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa, who also attended the programme, called upon people to stop depending on assurances given by politicians and instead fight for their rights.

Bettagiri Veerabhikshamurthi Swamiji, Neelakanta Swamiji of Neelakanta Mutt and Shivashankara Shivacharya Swamiji of Hubballi were also present.
