Visakhapatnam is cleanest rail station

Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is the cleanest railway station in the country, while Secunderabad Junction in Telangana stood second in the latest cleanliness survey of top railway stations. According to the survey report released by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu here on Wednesday, in AI category (station with annual revenue of more than Rs 50 crore), Jammu Tawi in Jammu and Kashmir bagged the third place.

Bengaluru City station was placed 10th and Yeshwanthpur got 32nd ranking among AI category stations in Karnataka. Quality Control of India attached to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion conducted the survey in 407 railways stations (including 75 AI category and 332 A category stations). Separate rankings were given for A1 and A category stations, the minister said. Among A category stations (annual revenue between Rs 6 crore and Rs 50 crore), Beas (Punjab) bagged first place, Khammam (Telangana) and Ahmadnagar (Maharashtra) secured second and third positions, respectively, while Mysuru was ranked 14th and Bangarpet 35th.

Under both categories, A1 and A, Darbhanga Junction and Jogbani, both in Bihar, were found the least clean (75th and 332nd place, respectively). In overall ranking of railway zones, the Bilaspur-headquartered South East Central Railway bagged first place, while Bhubaneswar-headquartered East Coast Railway took second place. The Hubli-headquartered South Western Railway got the sixth place. The survey considered cleanliness of parking area, toilets, vendor area, waiting rooms, main entrance, platforms and other areas, besides passengers’ feedback, the minister said.
