7 killed in weather-related incidents in UP

Rain brought grief and relief to  north India as seven people were killed in weather-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. According to District Magistrate of Bahraich, Ajay Deep Singh, “As many as five people died in Mihipurwa tehsil of the district in a wall collapse incident, while one person died after a tree fell on him.”

One person died in a weather-related incident in Kaisarganj tehsil of the district, he said. There was light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh. Allahabad was the hottest place in the state at 46.3° Celsius, Met officials said. Rainfall was recorded in Dhaurahra, Nanpara, Kheri, Nighashan and Aligarh of the state. Temperature appreciably fell in Bareilly and was above normal in Allahabad, Moradabad, Kanpur, Jhansi and Meerut.

Odisha continued to sizzle in the intense summer heat. In Maharashtra, the highest maximum temperature recorded in the plains was 46.8° Celsius at Chandrapur. Delhi had overcast conditions which led to a drop in mercury. The Safdarjung observatory registered a maximum temperature of 37.2° Celsius, three notches below the season’s average. The minimum temperature rose to settle at 28.4° Celsius, two notches above normal, an official said.

Heatwave persists
In the south, heatwave persisted in Telugu states. The severe heat conditions emanating from hot air blowing from the Bay of Bengal persisted in almost all major cities and towns in both the Telugu states on Wednesday.

However, temperature in places such as Visakhapatnam located in the north coastal Andhra Pradesh remained at  33° Celsius. While the capital region of Amaravati, particularly Vijayawada sizzled at a record breaking 46.2° Celsius, Nuzvid, Nellore, Nandigama and Eluru   recorded 46° Celsius, Kadapa, Nandyala, Tirupati and Machilipatnam crossed 44° Celsius  by the afternoon of Wednesday. Comparatively cooler places such as Rajahmundry and Eluru on the banks of river Godavari looked deserted with the temperatures soaring to new heights.
