DPS students raise funds for surgeries of underprivileged kids

Students from Delhi Public School (DPS), Bengaluru raised funds for pediatric heart surgeries.

More than 50 students from DPS raised Rs 40,000 each for 50 underprivileged children from various parts of rural Karnataka for their heart surgeries. With a target of Rs 20 lakh in 60 days, around Rs 14 lakh was collected by the students of DPS. The students who have taken up the initiative are from classes 9, 10 and 12.

“There is so much that children want to do,” said Manju Balasubramanyam, principal of Delhi Public School.

The campaign was undertaken with the help of Fueladream, a crowdfunding platform based in Bengaluru. The surgeries are executed with the help of Rotary Club and Needy Heart Foundation, which has tied up with Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru.

Speaking to reporters, founder and CEO of Fueladream, Ranganath Thota said that students collecting money for a social need makes them realise that they have the ability to do it.
Chairman and managing trustee of Needy Heart Foundation O P Khanna said, “this is a chance to give a healthy life to people who cannot afford.”
